Sold in 2005 to a new owner, Mobile's Motor Lodge became a Howard Johnson again. While its Restaurant remained vacant, a new Cendant sign replaced the original "roof logo" type sign.

The damaged roof tiles on the Restaurant and the added trim on the Motor Lodge were painted a garish blue when the Lodge was repatriated.

Note the original acrylic light fixture under the Restaurant's eve that served as a bird's roost.

Originally constructed with three guest buildings, a fourth was added perpendicular to the service road facing building. That fourth building is shown above, and was the only one not to have had its exterior significantly altered.

Upon my visit in 2006, large dumpsters had been placed around the location in preparation for a remodel. Once top-of-the-line with its tennis court and swimming pool, the old Motor Lodge suffered from lack of upkeep over the years.
