It is fitting that the old HoJo's should be occupied by a JB's. At one time the JB's chain was a Big Boy franchisee, and no doubt their restaurants made a relatively easy  move into the old Howard Johnson's buildings--keeping the same clientele.

I am fairly certain that Marriott (then the owner of Big Boy) encouraged its Big Boy franchisees to take over the vacated Howard Johnson's buildings that it had acquired with the purchased HoJo's. In addition many Coco's and Carrow's can be found occupying former HJ Restaurants in the West since both those chains arose from the ashes of Marriott's Big Boy Restaurants.

Phil Edwards pointed out that he has discovered that half of the former HoJo's in Arizona and New Mexico are were occupied by JB's.
