Operator Fillmore Crank and his actress wife, Beverly Garland (My Three Sons), opened their HJ's lodge in February. The 154-room hi-rise shares the seven-acre site on Vineland Ave. with a separate HJ's restaurant and banquet auditorium. Miss Garland personally coordinated and selected furnishings for her lodge.

Lasting as a Howard Johnson's from 1972 until 1992, the Motor Lodge boasted about its Celebrity Lounge and putting green. Expansion boosted guest rooms from 154 to 258 by the end of its run.
