Only
a Howard Johnson's for about seven years Santa Barbara opened in
1970. During the 1980s the complex had been converted into the Turnpike
Lodge and Restaurant. It featured "126 beautiful rooms, bedside
TV and lighting controls (Pamper Panels!), lush gardens, spectacular
mountain views, and lagoons with friendly ducks and Koi fish."
