Lasting nearly three decades as a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge, Southington relinquished its Orange Roof at the end of 1993. Perhaps becoming unbranded for a period of time, the former Motor Lodge eventually became a Travelodge. Unfortunately during one of its conversions, the facility was greatly altered with the loss of its guest room sliders. Nonetheless, its canopy gate Lodge remained at the site.

Of the nearly dozen that were built, by 2006 Southington's a-Frame canopy Gate Lodge was the LAST one standing.

By the middle 2000's, Southington had given up on a brand name, and the property no longer looked quite as sharp and its last-of-a-kind canopy Gate Lodge showed signs of serious deterioration.
