Complimenting its adjacent Motor Lodge, the Hamden Restaurant was based on the Nims design. The Restaurant suffered a nearly catastrophic fire in the early 1980s which sent flames shooting through the cupola tower! The Restaurant was renovated and reopened with fresh Landmark Supply furnishings.

Right, Below & Lower: Amazingly HoJo-like well into the 2000s, the interior included its octagon ceiling lattice marking the salad bar's former spot.

Converted into the Hamden Townhouse Diner some time after 1986, the former Howard Johnson's Restaurant remained largely recognizable until the middle 2000s. Then during 2004 or 2005 the Restaurant received the Hideous Hamden former Motor Lodge facade.

Above: Side view revealed that the Restaurant's original roof remained intact behind the Hideous Hamden treatment.

Below: Note that the "Roof-logo" type street sign was left in place and recycled with a new face to advertise the Hideous Hamden Clarion--yuck.
