Literally millions of Americans and others have passed the New Castle site, likely making Mr. Bissell's Howard Johnson's complex the most seen of all roadside HoJo's.

However, even with one of the most visible locations along any Interstate Highway in the United States, nothing could save the Howard Johnson's from change. First its Restaurant was converted into a Big Boy in the middle 1980s (note the sign shape), and then finally in the late 1990s the Motor Lodge succumbed to the Harley Davidson fad. Remarkably, owner of Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson, Mike Schwartz, retained both the Gate Lodge and Restaurant buildings as a part of his hugely successful motorcycle based establishment. Here is a link that shows part of the guest buildings being symbolically demolished to make way for Mike's: 1.

Note that the Ormond Beach Howard Johnson's complex was also transformed into a mega Harley store on a scale even greater than the New Castle outlet.
