The Newark Motor Lodge was one of the last most complete examples of Howard Johnson's standardized locations. Moreover by the early 2000s it was one of the last original Motor Lodges period. Alas its exterior was mutilated to gross excess. The architectural firm that completed the horrible remodeling job offered the project as an advertisement for its work. The firm's website is no longer online. One can only HOPE that they are out-of-business as a result of their incompetence!

Note that after the remodeling was completed that the Beacon was chopped off.
