New Castle-Airport, Delaware -- 148 N DuPont Highway

The New Castle-Airport Howard Johnson's is a bit of a mystery! It's only directory listing is from 1995--well after the Howard Johnson company was split apart. During the early 1990s FAI acquired two groups of restaurants from Marriott. The first acquisition involved 17 existing Howard Johnson's Restaurants, and the second transfer was for only three. It is possible that the second property transfer did not involve existing HoJo's like the location in New Castle. Telephone directories indicate that the site had been a Bob's Big Boy Restaurant and after it's short time as a Howard Johnson's became an IHOP. International House of Pancakes counted the site as a location in 2005. Thus it seems that for a couple of years there was a "new" Howard Johnson's Restaurant!

Located to the north and across the highway, Arner's Restaurant is remarkably similar to Howard Johnson's buildings of the late 1960s and early 1970s, but apparently the Arner's was NEVER a HoJo's.
