Where the Boys Are
The 1960s saw an explosion of popularity for the Fort Lauderdale area, for the seaside resort had become a popular spring break destination. At least a couple generations of Americans had the chance to "sew their wild oats" at Ft. Lauderdale Beach!

By the time that the Howard Johnson's was opened, Ft. Lauderdale's beachfront had been fully developed--a sea of high rise hotels and condominium buildings lined A1A.
