Jacksonville-West, Florida
 -- 6545 Ramona

Strategically located to capture patrons on the west side of Jacksonville, this HJ complex opened in about 1966. Its site ran immediately parallel to I-10 allowing motorists an easy view of the property as they sped past.

Jacksonville-West was the area's last authentic Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in operation. Finally succumbing to change, the once proud HJ lost its name in 1993. Unfortunately like many other former Motor Lodges this one came to cater to long term room renters. Once a property reaches this stage it is in the final years of existence.

Because the site was dissected by a drainage canal, the restaurant and Motor Lodge were physically separated by the barrier. In order to solve the problem a small foot bridge was constructed to allow for easy passage between the two.
