Attesting to its forward design and exceptional site, Miami-North or Golden Glades remained a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge for nearly 46 years! With is giant rooftop "Howard Johnson's" sign (minus the apostrophe s after 1986) beckoning motorists until 2004, the HoJo's offered its standard hospitality for many years.

Note that its guest buildings were early efforts at standardization, and the site usually offered between 140 and 150 rooms. The building with the rooftop sign was flat roofed and featured four floors while the other buildings along the pool were two story affairs that were offset unlike other Motor Lodge complexes (reminds me a little of Atlanta-South). At one point during its life, the complex boasted of having an annex with an additional 106 rooms! Bob Venditti recalled that it appeared to him that part of the Lodge was operating as a Days Inn back in 2002 -- likely the later annex section.

Still a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in these views, by May of 2006 the one-time most modern of all Miami's lodging facilities had become the Golden Glades Inn.
