Miami-South,
Florida
AKA Kendall |
--
10201 S Dixie Hwy |
|
Built
in the Howard Johnson Company's fully realized modern design,
the site was opened in the summer of 1962.
Covering
its bases, the Kendall Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and
Restaurant complex was sited on U. S. 1 near its intersection
with the Palmetto Expressway on the south side of Miami,
and was Miami's second Howard Johnson's complex.
The
Kendall Restaurant was converted into a Denny's after the
1985 dissolution of the Howard Johnson Company, but the
50 room Motor Lodge retained its HJ name and terrific A-frame
Gate Lodge until the location's closure and subsequent demolition
in about 1999. |

The
Restaurant continued operating as a Denny's for a period of time
following the Motor Lodge's demolition, but then it too was levelled
to make way for medical offices. |
