Covering its bases, the Kendall Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex was sited on U. S. 1 near its intersection with the Palmetto Expressway on the south side of Miami, and was Miami's second Howard Johnson's complex.

Built in the Howard Johnson Company's fully realized modern design, the site was opened in the summer of 1962.

Reportedly the Kendall Restaurant was converted into a Denny's after the 1985 dissolution of the Howard Johnson Company, but the 50 room Motor Lodge retained its HJ name and terrific A-frame Gate Lodge until the location's closure in late 1998 or early '99.

Sadly the beautifully maintained original condition Motor Lodge seen in Bob's 1994 photos and the rest of the complex had all been demolished by the early 2000s.
