Winter Park, Florida
AKA Orlando-North -- 603 Lee Rd @ I-4

Predating the tourism boom that Disney et al fostered, the Winter Park Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex opened in early 1966. Initially the facility only featured 82 guest rooms, but was expanded in the 1970s to offer as many as 300 plus--42 efficiencies. The sprawling complex was extremely well sited along I-4 just to the north of Orlando. Chock-a-block full of standard HoJo's amenities, the site also featured a barber shop, beauty parlor, gift shop, two swimming pools, a movie theater, playground, car rental, and elaborate covered garden area!

In 1966 Howard B. Johnson appeared at Winter Park where he was interviewed by WDBO-TV about HoJo's rapid and successful expansion in the Sunshine State!

In May of 1979 the much touted Vibrations discotheque was opened at the Winter Park complex. It "featured the newest in sound and visual effects," and was described as having been stunningly decorated. In addition it had a "two-tiered dance floor as well as a 135 seat cocktail lounge."
