Famous
for its sugar-like white sand beach and aqua water, Pensacola
Beach is a much discounted rival to the Caribbean for many
fun and sun seekers. Capitalizing on the natural splendor,
several national hospitality chains set up shop along the
beach during the 1970s.
Naturally
Howard Johnson's was no exception, and its offering, a Mansard
Manor, was built in 1973-'74. It featured a full service
Orange Roof Restaurant and Rum Keg Lounge as well as a tennis
court and pro shop. The 100 room property boasted four floors
of gulfside relaxation. It remained in the HoJo's fold until
1987. In is final days it was known as the Beachside Resort
and Conference Center and Bayside Grill. The property was
likely damaged by hurricanes and no trace of it remained
by the end of the 2000s.
