St. Pete Beach, Florida -- 6100 Gulf Blvd.

Opened in late 1969, the St. Petersburg Beach HoJo's Complex featured a Classic a-frame Gate Lodge and "T" style Restaurant--both topped with spire cupolas and weathervanes. The Motor Lodge offered guests the choice of 96 rooms in its 4-story guest building.

Note that during the 1970s, the Restaurant was beaconized, and by the early 1980s a fifth floor had been added to the Motor Lodge.

For a number of years St. Pete Beach and its sister Motor Lodge at Treasure Island were under the same management and ownership. Rex B. Husky was listed in several Howard Johnson's directories as the "host" at both properties, and he was still involved with St. Pete Beach as recently as 2004. Mr. Husky owned a Car Wash on Treasure Island where he stored many vintage Howard Johnson's items that had been in both of the Motor Lodges. Moreover he had installed a broken Lamplighter weathervane atop his car wash.
