Augusta, Georgia --12380 Gordon Hwy. (U.S. 78)

The Augusta Motor Lodge was opened in 1959 and its adjacent Restaurant probably began operating a few years earlier. The complex was located along the highway to Fort Gordon but was one of the closest motels to Augusta's business district and shared a property boundary with Augusta's Alamo Plaza.

The Howard Johnson Motor Lodge was exceptionally long-lived with a brief lapse from its listing in directories from 1990-1991, but it returned to the fold and remained until the middle 2000s. Subsequently it became the independent Executive Inn & Suites, and more recently, while retaining the Executive moniker, the former HoJo's has been given new life as a part of the Metropolis Complex (which includes the former Alamo Plaza).

A convenience store came to operate at the site of where the Restaurant had been. More recently the Raceway was rebranded as a Citco.

Well known for its "olympic-size" swimming pool, owners of the property near the end of its HoJo's days improperly drained the pool which resulted in its buckling up out of the ground! Following the site's purchase by the owners of the Metropolis Complex, a new pool area was installed along with a refurbishment of the Capri Lounge.
