For
a little more than a decade Howard Johnson's had the concession
rights to operate its Restaurants along the Illinois Tollway. Prior
to Howard Johnson's the service plaza Oases were operated by the
once well-known Fred Harvey outfit. Nearly unique in design the
Tollway service plazas were called Oases, and all most all of them
were over-the-road with gas stations on either side. During the
middle 1980s HoJo's had lost its way, and the Oases were converted
into fast food restaurants which included McDonald's, Buger King,
Wendy's, etc.
The
original Oases structures will have all been replaced by the middle
2010s and converted into "food courts."
