The Cave Land Motel was
located on the old main highway--U.S. 31-W, and is just south
of the Wigwam
Village #2. In 1960 it
boasted many amenities:
"Extra Large
100% Air Conditioned Brick Units-Family Suites-Fully Carpeted-Tubs
and Showers-FREE TV IN ALL ROOMS. Large Playground-Excellent
Restaurants opposite and next door. LARGE GUEST SWIMMING POOL
AND KIDDIES POOL"
Both the Holiday Motel
and Star Motel were also located on U.S. 31-W, and designed to
attract motorists stopping for a night or tourists headed to
view nature's splendors in the area.

But it was a losing
battle for these motels and others once Interstate 65 opened,
for national chains soon built at the Cave City interchange which
was in between the old motels and Mammoth Cave. |
