Alexandria,
Louisiana
-- 700 MacArthur Dr (U.S. 71 & 165) |

Initially
a Motor Lodge was scheduled to open in Alexandria in 1959 along
side an already operating Howard Johnson's Restaurant, but it did
not materialize until 1965. The Motor Lodge remained under its Orange
Roof until about 1988. By the 2000s it operated as a Super
8 Motel.

The
small building to the left of the Gate Lodge served as a lounge.
It was a part of the original complex and appeared to have had
a deck on its roof, and the original Howard Johnson's railing
around the deck was still extant. |

No
evidence of the Restaurant remains at the site. It had been where
a convenience store came to operate. |
