In about 1971, not long
after sections of I-10 and I-12 were opened, the complex lost
its Howard Johnson's name, and was replaced by the Motor Lodge/Restaurant
complex that opened along I-10 at the College Drive exit.

Phil discovered the remains
of the Restaurant's foundation. It stayed open about a year after
the Motor Lodge was decommissioned. I can remember eating ice
cream once or twice there in about 1971 or '72. At some point
it became a local eatery called Tilly's, and in the 1980s suffered
a catastrophic fire from which it never recovered. |
