Augusta, Maine -- 110 Community Drive

Augusta's Motor Lodge and Restaurant opened during 1973. Built in the Mansard style, the complex featured traditional standardized design and architecture. The 100+ guest room Motor Lodge and its Restaurant were at the site of the $2.5 million Augusta Civic Center which was described at the time of its 1972 opening as the largest and most versatile public auditorium in Northern New England.

When the Motor Lodge was converted into a Holiday Inn in 1993, the balconies were eliminated and the guest rooms were extended into the additional space. The large Restaurant was at some point converted into a Ground Round and only a small nearly hidden portion of the original Mansard with its porcelain enamel shingles remained extant.

Above: Just a corner of the original Mansard remains, and a hint of Orange bleeds through!
