Lavishly Liveable
Room to roam in is what makes Howard Johnson's accommodations so lavishly liveable. There are built in luggage racks, dressing counters, oversize closets. You'll love the spacious beds, with deep innerspring mattresses, in a variety of sizes and arrangements ... bedside light and TV control panel with dimmer switch ... two-channel hi-fi music system ... sea breeze coolness in summer ... warm as toast in winter.

Howard Johnson's is an ideal convention headquarters. the rooms and restaurant are right on the spot, Washington is minutes away and there's no better starting point for touring. To meet the ever-increasing demand for complete group planning, consult our special Group Function Sales department.

Note the conference/meeting room's unusual use of exterior patio chairs--and how 'bout the high-tech chalkboard!

In route from Baltimore to Virginia back in 1998, I took the Parkway. Happily I discovered that the "roof-logo" sign remained partially intact.

Unfortunately I did not explore the Motor Lodge nor did I get to see the Trapezoid sign and Orange roofed Gate Lodge that were just up the hill behind the former Restaurant.

Note that the Lodge operators had removed the 'S,' but that its outline failed to hide that it had been there. The apostrophe 'S' was officially removed from the Howard Johnson name in 1985! The Cheverly franchisee was using a sign that was at least 13 years out-of-date.

With its commanding view of Landover Road, the Restaurant became an Italian eatery after its HoJo's days. By Phil's 2003 HoJo-adventure, the 'Howard Johnson's' minus the 'S' had been replace on the sign with a new face depicting restaurant patrons.

Note in the photograph below that just to the right of the restaurant sign is a stone wall. The wall is retention for the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and shows that the complex was immediately adjacent to the motorway.
