By Bob Venditti and Phil Edwards' later visits only the guest buildings remained at LaPlata's former Howard Johnson's.

After the 2002 tornado, the area adjacent to the old Lodge has seen considerable redevelopment. New stores, apartments, townhomes, etc. encroach on the old motel. All of the new and improved buildings serve to increase real estate value rendering the once modern Howard Johnson's obsolete.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Without its Restaurant, Gate Lodge or swimming pool, the site hardly resembles what it once had been.
