The 98 unit five-story Laurel Motor Lodge and Restaurant opened for business in about 1964. The site was uniquely placed between the North and Southbound lanes of U.S. 1 through Laurel, and featured a "canopy" Gate Lodge.

Its Motor Lodge remained a Howard Johnson's into the 1990s. Its last HoJo's owner was a large Howard Johnson's franchisee operation called Emerald Hotels.
