Set
to open in 1964, the six-story 160 unit Wheaton Motor Lodge
remained a Howard Johnson's until the early 1980s. Boasting
traditional HoJo's amenities, it was considered an upscale
Howard Johnson's.
The
site featured an in-the-building lobby and a separate Nims-type
restaurant. By the 2000s, the Restaurant had been converted
into a bank branch, but by Phil Edwards visit in 2003 the
bank had been closed. Additionally, the Lodge itself had become
the Ambassador
Apartments with La Caverna Restaurant occupying a
part of the ground floor.
