An early Motor Lodge,
Holyoke opened in the Fall of 1961. It was built on a hill with
a commanding view of Holyoke's commercial district. It is likely
that when it was built that motorists traveling on I-91 had a
clear view of the Gate Lodge's gleaming Orange Roof both day
and night!
By the early 2000s the
property had been converted. While the Restaurant became a branch
bank, the Motor Lodge carried on as a Cendant branded Super 8
Motel. Until recently the guest buildings remained intact and
true to their original form and purpose. Unfortunately the current
owners removed the sliders and hacked off the balconies.
