A
popular location, the Leominster Howard Johnson's Restaurant had
an excellent site on North Main Street near Rt 2 and the area's
airport. Exceptionally long-lived, the location opened in 1955
and remained a HoJo's until the Company was dissolved in the middle
1980s. Although it was remodeled when it was converted into a
Friendly's and lost its original HJ fixtures, the restaurant remained
recognizable. The 50 plus year-old building sports a cupola and
even a Dairy Bar--both in the style of Friendly's, reminding us
of Howard Johnson's past!
Note
the original "Tudor-esque" Super 8 Motel behind the
former HoJo's-- those 1970's buildings are rapidly disappearing
from the ranks of the Super 8s.
