The Battle Creek Motor
Lodge and Restaurant complex opened in about 1962. By 2004 the
Motor Lodge was almost unrecognizable as a Comfort Inn--reportedly
it was at one time to have become a Holiday Inn. The arrow points
to what appeared to be a very remodeled original HJ guest room
wing.
In its final guise, the
Restaurant operated for about 11 years as Gary Fields Comedy
Club and Bloopers Sports Bar & Grill. Bryan who used to work
at a Bill Knapps up the street, reported that Mr. Field has sold
the former HJ, and that it will soon be demolished. Furthermore,
a recent article in the Battle Creek Enquirer (3-7-2005) reported
that a Wisconsin based hamburger chain called Culver's will build
on the vacated site.
