It is interesting to
note that the Oswego HoJo's Restaurant was part of the Carl DeSantis
mini hospitality empire. According to PUBLISHED records
in a Troy, NY newspaper discovered by Glenn Wells of http://www.roadsidefans.com, Mr.
DeSantis owned six Howard Johnson's restaurants, one Red Coach
Grill and two additional eateries as recently as 1981. The family
still operates the Lake George HoJo's Restaurant, but sources
at the site indicate that its continued existence is threatened
by the family's latest venture--a Hampton Inn. |

NEVER A HOWARD
JOHNSON'S MOTOR LODGE |
|
Operators of Oswego's
adjacent motel made attempts to have weary travelers think that
their lodging facility was a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge. In
fact, they installed an A-frame looking roof above the motel's
office in order to make it seem like a Gate Lodge!
The motel was not
built to be a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and never wore the
Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge name.
