Nate's
commentary continues:
With
ski trains continuing into the 1960s, and with more and more visitors
flocking to the area each year, North Conway continued to flourish
as a vacation spot and shopping destination. As a result, the HJ
franchise was a very successful operation, serving up HJ’s
famous recipes through the 1970s. In the early 1980s, the owners
of the North Conway store decided to drop the HJ franchise, largely
because the Imperial Group, the new parent company of the HJ empire,
was trying to take an even greater percentage of the restaurant’s
profits.
The
North Conway location now operates as Fandangle’s
restaurant.
It is still managed by the same owners who began the franchise back
in the 1930s. It looks much the same as it did in the HJ days, except
that the exterior walls are now painted a dark brown, a substantial
addition has been made on the back, and the orange roof has given
way to green. |
