Bordentown,

The
Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Bordentown was among the first
to have been opened in New Jersey and was built in the Colonial
style. Its adjacent Motor Lodge was opened in about 1962 and lasted
as a Howard Johnson's until 1984.
With
60 guest rooms, the once classically configured property was significantly
altered and was rebranded as an Econo
Lodge.

Unfortunately
the former HoJo's Motor Lodge became heavily stuccoed and
lost its sliders.
However
its guest rooms appear to have been appropriately modernized
to satisfy the budget traveler and certainly seem better
than many of the Econo Lodge facilities witnessed over the
last few years.

Open
by 1939, the Bordentown Restaurant survived until the early 1980s.
It subsequently became a much altered Ground Round during the
Howard Johnson Company's bid to increase its profits. After various
ownership changes Ground Round became bankrupt resulting in the
closure of many of its locations including Bordentown.
