The Mt. Holly Howard Johnson's was set to open in 1959, and featured "59 beautifully decorated units." The Howard Johnson Company wisely had franchisees open Motor Lodge/ Restaurant complexes up and down the 118 mile long New Jersey Turnpike. With nothing to block the motorist's view, the sprawling Mt. Holly complex spread out along the Turnpike giving weary travelers plenty of time to exit and enjoy America's Landmark.
