Secacus, New Jersey -- 875 Paterson Plank Rd

Serving travelers near New York City, the Secaucus complex was an early example of Howard Johnson's standardized design. Having opened in 1959, the facility featured both one and two story guest buildings along with a detached Nims-type Restaurant and a classic A-frame Gate Lodge.

The well-sited property remained under its Orange Roof until 1984 and its Motor Lodge was repatriated in 1993 and remained standing as a Howard Johnson branded motel until 2001. While the Nims-type Restaurant was re-purposed , the Motor Lodge was razed and replaced with a Hilton Garden Inn and a parking garage.

Behind a Jersey Barrier: All alone after its adjacent Motor Lodge's demolition, the Restaurant remained remarkably recognizable even more than 50 years after it was built!
