By the 1970s, Simple
Simon and the Pieman had been removed from its perch atop the
Trapezoid sign, and later the entire sign was replaced with one
featuring the "Roof" logo. |

These photographs
from Mr. Joy show a fully functioning Howard Johnson's Motor
Lodge and Restaurant complex still in its proper form. Not long
after his photographs were taken, Cendant's minions forced the
Gate Lodge to be squared off and stuccoization occurred. |
