The highlight of anyone's visit to Albany would have been the Lamplighter sign. Curiously no early postcard views of the Motor lodge show the figural sign. In fact it was atop a large trapezoid sign (see Syracuse-North), and most likely predates the Albany-Thruway location.

Not long after my visit to Albany, plans were revealed to make the Motor Lodge over as a Best Western. One architectural rendering indicated that much of the Lodge would be demolished and replaced with a high-rise. However even as the Best Western sign was erected, it was covered over and the Motor Lodge eventually slapped up Cendant's Ramada name plate.
