In
January of 2006, the Motor Lodge was hosting a Katrina refugee
and her children who where using two rooms in the otherwise unoccupied
eastern wing of the property. One of the children started a fire
near a vending machine which caused considerable damage to all
of the rooms in the wing.
The Bedosky's, owners of the motel, decided to demolish the wing
in 2007 and redevelop it as a Holiday Inn Express. Subsequently
the remaining HoJo's Motor Lodge sections including the A-frame
Gate Lodge were demolished and replaced by a Homewood Suites--by
2011 only the recycled Restaurant remained at the site.
