This pre-WWII circa
1938 Howard Johnson's Restaurant was among the first group to
have been opened in the Empire State. After more than fifty years
as a HoJo's it was gutted, remodeled, and converted into a Ground
Round.
By the mid 1990s its
life as an eatery had ended and the old HJ was converted into
additional space for an adjacent car dealership.

When I visited
the site the former restaurant and its parking lot served as
DePaula Chevrolet's truck center, but by Jack's 2005 encounter,
the site had become the dealership's used car lot. |

Several Ground
Round features remained on the exterior. The entry canopy, paint
scheme, and sign poles were all still extant in 2002. |
