Located about mid-way
between Albany and Binghamton, Oneonta was a 24 hour location
as a Howard Johnson's. The Mansard style Restaurant opened in
1977 during HoJo's last restaurant expansion movement and closed
when the company was sold in the mid 1980s. Steve Okarski reported
that after it closed as a HoJo's the building sat vacant for
a short period of time. He went on to recall that it reopened
as a Perkins, and was converted into a Denny's in the late 1990s
and subsequently into their "Diner" concept three or
four years ago.
The reader board advertised
"Help Wanted" when Steve got his shot. Hmm, I wonder
who will hire me?

Jack Sheppard found
the Restaurant by accident when he happened to get off of I-88
at its exit! He noted that the building had been significantly
altered, but that "the sidewalks were old, as were the light
poles." The Denny's street sign was using the original Howard
Johnson's sign base and reader board. |
