The
Smithtown or Commack Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge opened in the
summer of 1972 adjacent to a pre-existing stand-alone Restaurant.
Smithtown's Mansard lobby, topped with an Orange Roof, is the very
last to feature a Beacon. The Beacon was a stylized version of a
HoJo's cupola and widely used in new construction and in renovations
by the middle 1970s. Another unusual feature of the lobby is its
nearly unique Orange Roof Mansard application--only Sioux
Falls, SD had a similar roof design. |
