Although its originally constructed guest room buildings were extensively modified, the location retained its relatively unaltered "ranch" Gate Lodge. The single story exterior-entry guest room section was remodeled so that room entry was accomplished from an interior corridor. Mostly it was a measure to improve security, but the hallway provided protection from the elements too!
 
 
 
 

 
 
 
 
Where once a rooftop "Howard Johnson's" greeting welcomed guests, a Red Carpet Inn sign took its place.
 
 
 
 
Even as rooms were extended with the elimination of balconies and patios, the circa 1958 two-story guest buildings resembled their original design on the parking lot side.
