Charlotte-Central -- 2400 Wilkinson Blvd

This Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex was scheduled to open in the fall of 1963 according to Howard Johnson's directories. However, Robby Delius discovered that its listing in the local city business directory indicated that it was "under construction" in 1964. Moreover, the site replaced an original stand-alone circa 1951 Restaurant that had been built across the street at 2401 Wilkinson Boulevard adjacent to the Catalina Motor Lodge. That original location was more than likely torn down soon after the new Restaurant and Motor Lodge were open.

Note that the Airport Parkway Inn sign frame is from the location's time as a HoJo's (a similar sign might still be seen at the stand-alone Lake George Restaurant).

The 114 unit Motor Lodge included two 3-story guest wings. One of the buildings incorporated covered parking on the ground level with guest rooms on the top two floors.

The site has seen extensive renovations since it ceased operating as a Howard Johnson's in 1989. Originally it most likely had a "faux" Gate lodge similar to Homestead or perhaps like one that could have been seen at a Cleveland area Motor Lodge.
