Postcard circa 1960s: tim & Tom Bernert

Charlotte-North, North Carolina -- 3931 Statesville Ave

An early, but typical standardized location, Greensboro-North opened in about 1961 along U.S. 29 bypass--an excellent location for a Motor Lodge and Restaurant because the highway had also been designated as I-85.

Originally configured with only 42 guest rooms, an addition in the late 1960s or early 1970s bumped the total to 80. After the Motor Lodge was closed, the original 42 room section and the Gate Lodge were demolished. The newer guest wing was prepped for demolition, but was still standing--gutted--as recently as 2005.
