As recently as 2003, Hickory's brick had not been stuccoed or painted. Its intended natural and attractive curb appeal remained!

Bob Venditi pointed out an unusual guest room arrangement at the hilly site. He noted that the 2-story guest wing behind the Gate Lodge featured ground level patios on the second floor (see photo at right).

Daylight proved that Old Hickory was less creepy than the night before. Venturing through the grounds, Bob discovered that swimming pool access had been restricted by an "oh-so-decorative" chain link fence forcing guests to enter the pool area through a gate near the lobby. The guest wing across from Mr. Venditti's room was being renovated and furnishing had been piled up on balconies (see above).

Oddly, the nearly complete Howard Johnson's room that Bob Venditti rented had been shorn of its ceiling beams. He said that the room was clean, but had some maintenance issues.

Note the circa 1980s Landmark Supply furniture as well as the Pamper Panel that were still evident during Bob's 2003 overnight.
