The
classically designed Cayce Motor Lodge was purged from the list
of HoJo's in the middle 1980s, for by 1986 it was no longer listed
in the Company's directories. In the 1987 AAA Tourbook
that contained South Carolina information, its entry indicated
that it had formerly been a Howard Johnson's and had been converted
into a Roadway Inn. Subsequent AAA Tourbooks omitted
its existence. After
its stint as a Roadway Inn, the former Howard Johnson's lost brand
affiliation and the respectability that usually comes with a brand
