Dillon, South Carolina -- 904 Radford Blvd (SR 9 @ I-95)

The Dillon Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex was opened in the spring of 1972. While featuring the classic two-story guest buildings of a typical Motor Lodge, the facility was an early employer of both a Mansard style Lobby and Restaurant. Located about six miles south of North Carolina, South of the Border was often touted as a nearby attraction.

Lasting thirty years as a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge, Dillon was likely in a state of limbo when Phil Edwards visited in 2003. Around the time of his stops, It was converted into a Best Value Inn, and still listed as such in 2006.

Note the largely unaltered looking guest building and original "T" lights around the pool area in Phil's photo.

Vacant and deteriorating, the former Restaurant was a sad sight.
