A very modern for its day compact multi-story Motor Lodge, Greenville-Downtown opened in the summer of 1968, and featured an adjacent Howard Johnson's Restaurant.

The location was apparently purged from the Howard Johnson's system in the 1980s. Entries in various AAA Tourbooks through the 1980s do not provide any clues about the former Lodge's identity after its HJ days. Although considerably altered by the 2000s and wearing the Econo Lodge moniker, the place was still recognizable.

Looking the worse for wear, by 2006 the former Lodge had given up even the Econo Lodge name and called itself a Budget Inn. Note that the Restaurant had been about where the Taco Bell was sited.
