Hardeeville,
South Carolina -- US
17 @ Exit 5, I-95 |
|
Well
situated to capture travelers headed north or south on I-95, the
Hardeeville HoJo's complex opened in 1974 -- it was the last Howard
Johnson's in South Carolina along the Interstate before entering
Georgia. |

Hideously,
new lobby construction greeted Marc upon his early 2006 visit.
The new plywood to - be - stuccoed structure was grotesquely
stuck between the two guest buildings that face the parking
lot.

Note
above the original lobby, for the property has been divided so
that the HJ branded part has fewer rooms for the owners to pay
royalties on, yet the brand will continue to provide a modicum
of respectability to the entire property -- even though its division
had been ridiculously named "CleanStay USA." Bob said
that the original lobby continued to serve as the spot for HJ
registration until the new lobby-o-plywood and stucco was completed. |
