Manning, South Carolina -- 5978 Alex Harvin Hwy (U.S. 301 @ I-95)

Sited to capture any motorists who continued to use the old highway (U.S. 301), but at its interchange with I-95, Manning was a classic Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex opened in the summer of 1968. On the large size, it boasted 80 guest rooms, and lasted as a Howard Johnson's complete with its Restaurant until 1987.

Unfortunately by the time Bob made it back to Manning, the Gate Lodge had suffered stucco uglification and window reduction--at least the Orange Roof and its proper shape remained (compare the photo above with the older view to the left).
