Mark Angelides wrote that "Back in the summer of 1977, my parents took us for a family vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC and we stayed at the Howard Johnson's Oceanfront hotel there. The front of the hotel was very modern looking, although still retaining the classic orange roof."

Below: By the 2000s, The Sands Ocean Club anchored by the former Howard Johnson's (middle building) had become a series of buildings connected by a multi-level parking garage built in front of the property blocking the street view of the site of the Mansard Restaurant.
